Friday Fun: Misty in the Moment

Before we leave Errol Garner’s classic standard Misty, I wanted to stop for a moment with a couple of current artists who’ve recorded the tune in the last few years. And it just so happens they’re my two favorite artists these days.

Samara Joy — Linger Awhile (2022)

A lovely, luminous version. Samara’s whole album has that warm, late‑night glow, and this track fits right in. Linger Awhile went on to win the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album, and it’s easy to hear why.

Laufey — Bewitched (2023)

Another gorgeous take — dreamy, intimate, and unmistakably Laufey. Bewitched won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, a perfect match for her elegant, modern‑classic style.

I think both of these young artists are absolutely wonderful, and I’m glad to see them enjoying such well‑deserved success.

And yes — I do like to show that I don’t only listen to records made 80–90 years ago. Sometimes I even wander all the way into the 2020s!
