Sixties Saturday: Holy Anniversary, Batman!

Welcome to Sixties Saturday!

This coming Monday, January 12, marks the sixtieth anniversary of the premiere of the Batman TV series on ABC! What better way to celebrate than by cranking up Neal Hefti’s legendary, driving theme?

Here is the original 45 rpm version by Neal on RCA Victor:

The rarely heard flipside, "Batman Chase," is also incredibly cool—it captures that frantic, pop-art energy of the show perfectly.

Those stereo mixes sound great!

If you haven’t watched the series in a while, I’m inviting you to join me in a "real-time" retrospective: I’m going to watch each episode on the same date it originally aired all those years ago! Since the show famously aired in two parts, it’ll be a fun mid-week tradition.

Same Bat-time! Same Bat-channel!

Christmas 1945 - Part 4 - Comic Books

While hanging around Christmas of 1945, we take a look at some of the comic books kids could read back then!

It gets confusing at times, as comic books always had a cover date a couple of moths in the future, so the ones available in December of 1945 would actually show a 1946 date.

That being said, I think these were on sale in December of 1945:

This next one was published in 1944, but it's cool, so we'll say it escaped the paper drive and some kids were still reading it a year later:

Good fun!
