“Looking for the Lovelight in the Dark" (1930)
We follow Jack Whiting back to 1930 for the movie “Top Speed” starring comedian Joe E. Brown, whose wide mouth was rivaled only by Jack’s future co-star Martha Raye!
The song is “Looking for the Lovelight in the Dark,” written by Al Dubin and Joe Burke, who also wrote “Highway to Heaven.”
Like “Highway to Heaven,” Jackie Taylor recorded “Looking for the Lovelight in the Dark” for Victor Records, this time with Leigh Harline supplying the vocal:
I don’t know a lot about Jackie Taylor other than he was a violinist and passed away in 1932 after only a couple of recording sessions, but he left some lovely records behind!
